About this place
This monument was built to commemorate the victory of the South Korean 5th and 6th Divisions and U.S. forces against Chinese and North Korean troops during the Korean War in the Gapyeong area. The battle is regarded as strategically important and is remembered with a victory commemoration event held every year on the fourth Friday of May.
용문산전투 전적비 — 원문 (Korean original)
용문산전투 전적비는 6·25 당시 가평 지역에서 중공군과 북한군에 맞서 싸운 국군 제5사단, 제6사단 및 미군의 승리를 기념하기 위해 세워졌다. 이 전투는 중공군의 춘계 대공세를 제6사단이 혈전 끝에 완전히 섬멸시키고 대승을 거둔 전투로서, 이 전투의 승리를 기점으로 하여 국군과 유엔군이 재반격의 기반을 마련하다. 이 승리는 미 육군사관학교 전술 교본으로 활용될 정도로 전략적 중요성이 큰 전투로 평가받고 있다. 매년 5월 넷째 주 금요일에 전승 기념행사를 개최하고 있다.
